Legend says that Lake Runn has as many islands as there are days in a year. This might be a bit of an exaggeration, but Runn is what you call an archipelago lake with many islands, islets, rocks, and beaches. The largest and most famous islands in the northern part of the lake are Hj\u00e4rtklack, Hellmans\u00f6, Dejstolen, Koholmen, and Orrholmen.<\/span><\/p>\n Runn is Dalarna’s second-largest lake, covering 65 square kilometers, and is known for its bustling boating life and excellent fishing. Here, several tracks are plowed throughout the season, and you can join guided tours and technique courses. The Runn around cycle path is just the right length for a day trip. The route contains no steep hills and is generally perceived as easy to cycle from a topographical perspective. Falun developed as a trading post near the mine. The waterways in Falun were one of Sweden’s largest shipping ports in tonnage in the 1600s and 1700s. The massive amounts of raw copper exported from here were loaded onto barges at Kopparv\u00e5gen in Falun and shipped with larger sailing ships over Runn.<\/span><\/p>\n The famous shipbuilder Fredric af Chapman designed a two-masted copper schooner in 1800 that sailed on Runn. The schooner, which had Falun as its home port, was 27 meters long and 3 meters wide. There are records of several ships that ran aground or capsized on Runn. This history began in the mid-1800s when the paddle steamer Fahlun was launched. Fahlun was built as a paddle steamer, she was 27 meters long and probably the longest boat that has navigated our waters. The owner was E.G Floding, a treasury cashier. Floding acquired another paddle steamer in 1860 named Engelbrekt.<\/span><\/p>\n By 1870, Engelbrekt had already been scrapped, and Floding acquired another steamboat for passenger traffic, “Sylfid,” which was a very beautiful propeller steamer. Sylfid sailed on Runn for 21 years. But the flagship of them all was Najad, which could carry 200 passengers and twelve cows. Slussbruden was built in 1964 in Germany at the request of the German Federal Railway for archipelago traffic. After a few years in Germany, she was bought by a Dutch shipping company and operated there for some years before coming to Sweden and having Simrishamn as her home port, named Vitask\u00e4r.<\/span><\/p>\n In 2001, Rederi AB Runn bought Vitask\u00e4r, and she was renamed Slussbruden. Slussbruden is the largest boat by volume that has navigated Runn. She has a draft of 1.20 m and is therefore perfect for traffic in Lake Runn, which is a relatively shallow lake. Her length from bow to stern is 20.94 m, and her width is 5.21 m.
