History of Villa Herdin
The Herdin family is a significant part of Falun’s history. It all started back in 1721 when the Herdins established a textile dyeing business along the Falu River. Locals would bring their clothes here to be dyed – and you can still see a historic washing platform from that time in the river today.
Carl Herdin, the family’s ancestor in Falun, was a goldsmith, but it was the dyeing trade that made the Herdin name well-known in the area.
In 1897, Oskar Herdin, a bank director and politician, built the charming “summer house” that is now Villa Herdin. He and his wife Olga hosted friends like the famous artists Carl and Karin Larsson and Anders Zorn.
